Yesterday, Earth Day, I spent a bit of time weeding and pruning, just to celebrate! Then I walked to the beach during low tide. I always hope to spot sea creatures, and have certainly been rewarded handsomely at times. However, on this day I didn't come upon any, well, except for a sea lion watching me, but I had some great bird sightings. I saw 3 bald eagles; 2 adults and 1 juvenile. A really special treat was watching an adult dive in the water to retrieve a small fish, perch nearby and eat it. All within 100 ft of me. Then I noticed another adult at the tippy top of a fir tree, overseeing everything. An osprey cruised overhead, high, and I wondered what the eagles would do as these 2 species compete for food. Apparently the osprey kept the appropriate distance.

The belted kingfishers are back patrolling the shoreline.

As are the Great Blue Heron; 3 of them. When I returned home I noticed that Mrs. Robin Red Breast has taken up roosting on the nest on top of an outdoor light at the garage. What a great Earth Day I had.

What a beautiful way to celebrate Earth Day! I just worked in my studio cutting fabric and such. Have a great weekend!

We just saw a bald eagle, too! I'll have to do a bit of bird research on ospreys.....I'm not sure if we have those or not.
Were these old Audubon illustrations? Remind me to find you the name of a big Audubonish book I think you'd enjoy. I can't remember the name of it just now. Remind me that it's the one with the greedy monkeys.
