Tin-ing

Everybody's doing it! Tin-ing. Is that a word? Yuh, probably isn't, but you get it, right? I've just altered my first Altoid tin. I've been wanting to make something patriotic for weeks, but I was distracted by broken computer and other household dramas. Today...the decks were clear so I fished around for some red, white & blue supplies. I was limited on scrap images that were the right scale. My stash of vintage Dennison striped crepe paper is precious, but added the right flourish.
I had already disassembled the tin, wanting to make dioramas rather than a box. Initially I was going for a Navy idea, in the patriotic spirit, but just loved that green background paper (old sailing schooners with a shell motif) so the red/white/blue wasn't going to harmonize with that. I just acquired (thank you, eBay) some vintage Victorian scrap of boats that were calling to me. Altoid, anyone?

Oh, I LOVE these, Charlotte! I made a mini shrine of an altoid tin for a friend. I glued a mirror and lots of dazzle on one side, and filled it with a small candle with holder, matches, and incense.

I'm thinking about making one that's a teeny Virgin of Guadalupe shrine with tiny roses inside. I should have been Catholic.

Have you seen the ones that are faux-aged? I think you soak them in water to help rust them, after sanding all the paint off. If I remember correctly, maybe you can even bake them for a weathered look? Too much rust if you ask, me.

Anyway---welcome back, and these look great!
