10 pounds = 2 years and 3 months

It took me 2 years and 3 months to lose 10 pounds. Several months before my 60th birthday, in 2008, I vowed to give myself the gift of losing 10 pounds. Never happened. Then last summer, this picture of me was a harsh reminder that I really needed to lose those pounds. (and a new hairdo, which also took some time to achieve.) But still I couldn't do it.
I realized I needed help from a higher source to reach my goal of losing weight, just like in the 12-step programs: I needed Weight Watchers. Which meant I had to attend weekly meetings in town, a trip I am always reluctant to make. Because I had tried WW online, and it can work, but I wasn't taking it seriously. I needed the pressure of weekly weigh-ins. At the first weigh-in I was jolted into reality. I didn't need to lose 10 pounds, I needed to lose 20 pounds. This is how much weight I had gained in the 7 years we've lived in WA. Now that was a surprise...sort of. I knew it based on the way my clothes (didn't) fit, but not by the scale because apparently mine is sadly inaccurate. From that first meeting 12 weeks ago I immediately and radically changed what I eat. Now, I don't crave chocolate and baked goods, and I enjoy everything without butter, sour cream, lots of cheese, etc. Really. I am half-way through my goal to lose 20 pounds. It is very motivating to see the weight and inches S-L-O-W-L-Y drop away. A huge challenge will be to maintain these new eating habits for life.

You look fabulous.
Honestly, though, I thought you looked nice in the 'before' photo, too. However, I know that is just FEELS better to have a little less weight to carry on your bones.
I'm impressed you've stuck to it like this. It's hard to perservere, especially when you're a food lover. At least you like to get out and about, though!
