Twice a week, every week, I stretch my neck; it's called traction. Last year I signed up for many physical therapy sessions with electric stimulation, ultra sound, massage, and cortisone packs. Nothing was curtailing the chronic pain I had in my right shoulder. Finally as a last resort the physical therapist asked if I wanted to try traction. I was willing to try anything. And to my surprise, this old school method was exactly what I needed. Who knew that shoulder pain, accompanied by nerve tingling down my right arm, was caused by narrowing in the cervical disc spaces of my neck (C5-C6 to be exact). My neck didn't hurt! Once I was convinced traction was going to continue to work, I went to my shopping mecca, eBay, and bought the same portable unit that the therapist used. Here I am, assuming the position, with my spotter Gandi, the scarlet macaw. Ahhhhh, relief.
